The setting for not one but three marriage proposals, this square log cottage addition seems to have romance built right into its sturdy structure.
Its owners wanted to increase the size and general flow of the original building in order to accommodate a growing family, while maintaining the natural setting as much as possible.
A log structure, from Confederation Log & Timber Frame, was the perfect answer. Its natural hues and historic style blends with the surrounding forest and granite landscape, giving the impression that the cottage has always been part of the environment.
Internally, the new portion of the cottage contains an open plan kitchen and dining area with soaring cathedral ceiling. Up the stairs, a gallery overlooking this space offers access to guest bedrooms; while, on the main level, through a large opening into the existing cottage, is the living room and master bedroom.
The client, owner of a construction firm in the city, was instrumental in many decisions during the build and continues to be hands-on when CDH revisits the property to take on other commissions, including a double garage with accommodation above, which has been designed to complement the square log aesthetic of the cottage.
Today, Chris is considered a good friend of the family and the cottage is described as the perfect place to 'star gaze, relieve stress and create wonderful family memories'.
