A garage to be used as boat storage, with an attached apartment for guests; this was the initial brief. However, the client loved the garage so much that , in their words, 'it has morphed into an upscale workshop and party room'. The apartment, too, has been finished to a high degree, including vaulted ceilings, custom trim work and a full kitchen.

McTee's is a 1650 sqft stand alone addition to this Soyer's Lake property that features a quaint older cottage and boathouse. The new building is finished in black timber siding in order that its outline blends into the trees along the shoreline, making it inconspicuous from the lake and land. Internally, the apartment has two bedrooms (large enough to include cribs), a living/kitchen space and bathroom. Large windows and a patio door allow light to flood in. The garage walls are clad in rough sawn pine siding; a polished concrete floor runs throughout both parts of the building. The entire interior is heated via a forced air underfloor system, designed as part of the insulated concrete foundation slab from Legalett Canada. Walls are double insulated, with blown-in insulation within the framed structure and a wrap of rigid foam around the outside of the building, keeping heating bills to a minimum.
